Frequently asked questions
Is Birthdays: Reminder & Calendar free?
Yes. The app is free to download and use. It is supported by ads, and a short video can be watched to unlock premium greeting-card designs. There is no subscription.
Does it need an account or an internet connection?
No account, and no internet connection for reminders. Every birthday, anniversary and note is stored only on your device. The internet is used only to download greeting-card designs and to show ads.
Can it remind me before the day itself?
Yes. As well as a reminder on the day, you can be warned 1, 2, 3 or 4 days before, or 1, 2 or 4 weeks before. You can also limit advance warnings to people you have marked as VIP.
Why am I not receiving reminders?
On Android 12 and later, exact alarms need a separate permission. Without it Android may delay or drop reminders. Open the app, go to "Missing Reminders?" and it will check the notification permission, the exact-alarm permission and battery optimisation, and fix each one. Some phones — Xiaomi, Huawei, Oppo, Vivo and OnePlus — also have a separate autostart screen that must be enabled.
Can I import birthdays from my contacts?
Yes. The app reads the birthday and anniversary dates already saved against your contacts and imports them, skipping anyone already added. The contacts stay on your device.
Does it back up to the cloud?
No. Backup creates a file — either a spreadsheet or a JSON backup — and hands it to your share sheet, so you choose where it goes: Drive, email, or anywhere else. Nothing is uploaded to us, and there is no server holding your data.
Is there an iPhone version?
Not at the moment. The app is Android only.
What kinds of events can it track?
Birthdays, wedding and engagement anniversaries, work anniversaries and joining days, festivals, graduations, housewarmings, appointments, renewals, exams and tasks — plus any category you create yourself, with your own icon and colour.
Does it have a home-screen widget?
Yes. The widget lists what is coming up, and you can choose the time range, the text size, whether photos and ages are shown, and whether to show only VIP entries.
How is this different from birthdays in Google Calendar?
Google Calendar shows birthdays it already knows about and reminds you once. This app lets you add anyone whether or not they are a contact, warn you weeks ahead, mark people as VIP, keep private gift notes against each person, and send a card or a message straight from the reminder.
